Do I need some specific documents to travel with my pet?

Cats, dogs and ferrets can not travel abroad without their passport. This is regulated by an European disposition about animal transport. The European law 998/2003 confirms the obligation of passport showing rabies vaccination and animal identification through a microchip device.

The majority of air companies require a healthy certificate for the transport of every kind of animals, both in cabin and in the hold.

Moreover, if you travel to Ireland, Great Britain, Malta and Sweden you should also have done the immunity test to check the ant corps after at least 20 days from the rabies vaccination. This is a rule that it is also valid in other non European countries.

You can have the passport from the vet office of your country. This document contains also your pet's personal data like: name, sex, colour of hair, date of birth, number of microchip, rabies vaccinations and owner's information as well. At the health service in your town, it is important to ask for all the details about necessary sanitary requirements and other further obligations you have to respect in the destination countries. Before leaving, we suggest to contact the Embassy of the country you have chosen for your holidays.
