Which is the correct value for the water pH in the aquarium?

The acidity of the water (pH) is important for the life of fish and plants. In any tropical freshwater aquarium it should range around 7, indicating "neutrality" or the absence of acid or basic compounds. The pH is measured by tests. For testing your water you should add some drops of the test solution into the test tube. You will obtain a specific colour, to be compared with those present on the instruction sheet. A pH less than 7 indicates acid water; a pH over 7 indicates basic water. Tap water often exhibits a high pH (7,5-7,8) because of its high temporary hardness.
