Can I use tap water for the aquarium?

Water flowing from our taps is very hard and inadequate for breeding tropical species. Most tropical fish are used to live in very soft water.  Tap water can be used only if corrected with some distilled water, which contains few salts in solution,  so that to reach an ideal value of hardness. Another system is to filter tap water through specific resins, which are available in aquarium shops. Theses resins exchange ions with water, absorbing those responsible for hardness.
